We've heard that you can now purchase Kosher computers! They are made in Israel by a company called DELL-SHALOM. The price is so low... even with the shipping from Israel! However, before you purchase a kosher computer of your own, you should know that there are some important changes from the typical non-kosher computer you are used to, such as:

1) The "Start" button has been replaced with a "Let's go!! I'm not getting any younger!" button.

2) You hear "Hava Nagila" during startup.

3) The cursor moves from right to left.

4) When Spell-checker finds an error it prompts, "Is this the best you can do?"

5) When you look at erotic images, your computer says, "If your mother knew you did this, she would die."

6) It comes with a "monitor cleaning solution" from Manischewitz that gets rid of all the "schmutz und drek."

7) When running "Scan Disk" it prompts you with a "You want I should fix this?" message.

Jon & Kate - Where do they go from here?

We're all very concerned about Jon & Kate Gosselin and where they'll go from here. Divorce isn't easy especially when you have tons of money from exploiting your children. Thank goodness they were able to get one last very expensive freebie before everything came crashing down (Crooked Houses must LOVE the fact that their product was featured on probably the most watched episode ever).

Crazy Carl thinks that from now on, the show should focus on Jon one week and Kate the next week and in each episode they're dating different celebrities. Like one week Kate is dating Lebron James, the next week Jon is dating Megan fox. As Crazy Carl put it, "I mean, what is a divorce really if its not the chance for a spinoff?" Very well said Carl.

My wife and I were wondering last night and we both agreed that Kate probably won't let Jon see a DIME of the money, especially the money she's made from the books. However, Jon looks like he couldn't care less as long as he's no longer married to the nutbag. Seems like a win win to me!

Guess we'll all have to wait and see how this plays out!

My last post was a pretty in depth look at how musicians and bands can help themselves with twitter. However, it was pointed out to me numerous times that apparently most bands have A.D.D. and I'll need to make this shorter if they're actually going to read it. So, here's pretty much the same How-To Twitter for Bands and Musicians guide in a nice, short, bullet point format:

Twitter for Bands (follow me at @burntees)

· Update your status in 140 characters or less (what are you doing?)

· Make sure your profile is set up with a link to your website, a short bio and a picture

· Make sure to engage with your audience by replying to users (@username to reply) – don’t just post Facebook type status updates all the time.

· Ideas on what to write:

o Anything and everything – fans want to feel connected to the artist and feel like they’re getting an inside look at their lives.

o Updates from the studio when recording

o Updates on the manufacturing process

o Reminders about shows and other band news

o Links to press, pictures, videos, music streams, etc

o Don’t always try to be selling or pushing something. It’s ok to say “new album available on itunes here (with a link), but that should be a small % of your posts.

· How do you get followers?

o Start at http://www.search.twitter.com and search your band name to find fans talking about you.

o Follow people you’re interested in; there’s a good chance they’ll follow you back

A Quick Twitter How-To Guide for Musicians and Bands

1) What is Twitter and what should I be doing with it?

The Basics:

Twitter asks you to update your page with what you’re doing in 140 characters or less

If you want to reply to someone, you type @username and then write your message. That person will see in their replies section that someone is writing to them. To see who is writing directly to you, you can check your replies section. You can also send a private message to someone by sending them a direct message. You can only direct message someone who you are following and who is following you back and that message can only be seen by that person. It isn’t public unlike all other posts on twitter.

Twitter is a tool that artists can use to engage with their fans. Fans are looking for a way to feel connected to artists and twitter can provide that inside look into an artist’s life that the fan may be looking for. Although it may seem odd, people want to hear things such as “going to the gym” just as much as they want to hear “in the studio right now, just finished recording an amazing new song for the new album”. What’s most important is that people know that it’s really you that they’re hearing from, not a manager or an intern at the label, but that what they’re reading is coming from the artist themselves.

It’s also important to remember to not constantly spam your audience with something you’re trying to sell. People can “un-follow” you just as quickly as they can follow you. It’s ok to say “hey, our new album just came out, here’s a link” but that can’t be all you do. If anything, it should be a very small percentage of what you’re twittering about on a normal basis.

Lastly, when you look at your twitter page, is it filled with just announcements? Or are there a lot of @ replies to other people? Hopefully you have a mix of both. Twitter is different from other platforms in that it allows you to interact and engage with fans in a setting that more resembles an open chat room rather than a one way conversation. If a fan writes something to you and you respond directly to that person, it can be a very powerful thing for the fan knowing that they’re actually talking with an artist.

Some things you can twitter about to keep fans interesting:

- Anything and everything – fans want to feel connected to the artist and feel like they’re getting an inside look at their lives.

- Updates from the studio when recording

- Updates on the manufacturing process

- Reminders about shows and other band news

- Links to press, pictures, videos, music streams, etc

- Some good examples to use as a guide – it would be a good idea to follow these musicians and see how they use twitter.

2) How do you get followers?

It’s important to remember that it’s not JUST about how many followers you can get. 100,000 followers who don’t care what you’re saying won’t do anything. It’s a lot more important and a lot more powerful to have 1,000 followers who read every post and who care about what you’re saying.

Use the “find people” link at the top of the twitter page to search for friends. You can also use the “find on other networks” tab to search for contacts thru gmail, yahoo, aol and hotmail. The “suggested users” tab also provides a few people that twitter thinks are interesting to follow and usually creates a good starting point.

Add links and “follow me” buttons on your MySpace, Facebook and other web pages.

Another great place to start is on search.twitter.com. Enter in your band’s name (you can use quotes – for example, “All That Remains” as opposed to just searching All That Remains) and you can quickly see different people talking about your band. These are your fans and this is your target audience. These are the people who want to connect with you. You can start by following these people and responding to some of the things they’re saying. If someone posted “saw Dead Confederate last night, awesome show”, there’s no reason you can’t directly respond to that person saying “thanks for coming we had an awesome time playing for you guys”. You just gained a follower, engaged with a fan and chances are, that fan will help to spread the word that you’re now on twitter.

It’s also helpful to follow people that you’re interested in. Most people get a notification that a new person is following them and they’ll usually click on the person’s profile to see who they are and they’ll decide if they want to follow that person back. If they look on your page and see that you’re posting, interacting and creating value, it’ll give them more reason to follow you back. So if there’s someone you’d like to have follow you, following them is often a good place to start.

One of the best ways to get followers is just by interacting with other users and engaging in conversation. If user A is talking with user B, people who follow user A are likely to click on user B’s profile and see who that person is talking to. “Well if Dave Grohl is following him and talking with him, maybe I want to follow him too”.

3) What tools can I use to make using twitter easier?

One of the best parts about using twitter are the tools that make it easy to use. You can post and use twitter directly from the website (www.twitter.com) or you can use your cell phone, blackberry or iPhone. Below are some popular apps:

I was doing some research on Alexa.com and decided to see what's new in the CafePress vs Zazzle battle. I was kind of surprised to see what the website traffic picture looks like these days. While Zazzle isn't doing all that much climbing, the two seem to be headed for a neck and neck race since CafePress's traffic is obviously on the decline. What this means? I'm not 100% sure. what I'm more interested in is why CP's traffic seems to be tanking over the last few months?

TMQ Hats on Sale for $78 Billion, Treasury Department Said To Be Interested: The George W. Bush administration was so incredibly careless with your money that, according to this report to the Senate Banking Committee, it paid $254 billion this past autumn for bank stock worth $176 billion on the dates of purchase. Seventy-eight billion dollars wasted! Why isn't this on the front page of every newspaper in America? If you made a workplace decision that wasted several thousand dollars, you'd be in hot water -- yet Bush administration White House and Treasury Department officials wasted $78 billion without consequences or accountability. That amount would have been more than sufficient to create universal health care for a year. Instead the money was forcibly removed from your pockets and transferred to the rich of Wall Street and the banking world (buying stock at more than market value effectively is a gift to the firms). Your children will be paying for this and similar irresponsible use of public funds for their entire working lives.

Treasury officials had the temerity to tell Harvard Professor Elizabeth Warren, chairwoman of the bailout oversight panel -- by the way, her excellent 2003 book "The Two-Income Trap" predicted a national financial meltdown caused by bad mortgages -- the mistake isn't quite as bad as it sounds because the stocks purchased have returned $271 million in dividends to taxpayers. So we threw $78 billion out the window but $271 million (three-tenths of 1 percent) blew back! In contemporary Washington, this is viewed as driving a hard bargain.

How is this not front page news everywhere?! I'm tired of the government having NO oversight on spending. For once Crazy Carl actually has what I think is a great idea (from an actual IM)

This is an actual IM conversation between Crazy Carl and Myself

Crazy Carl: ok. i was driving to philadelphia with my buddy "D" when we told Me: this story.
Crazy Carl: there was this kid i knew through playing hockey, he went to high school with "D" and played for that school.
Crazy Carl: anyways, the kids father's worked for briggs, the security company.
Crazy Carl: so, in , Briggs is hired by the NBA. the kid's father was assigned to a detail that was supposed to keep the Larry O'Brien Trophy (that's the championship trophy. they make a new one every year) secure from when it was finished being made in mid may until the end of the NBA finals. After that it belongs to the team, and its the teams responsibility.
Crazy Carl: you with me so far.
Crazy Carl: sorry, it was , my bad.
Crazy Carl: anyways, the bulls play the sonics in that NBA finals.
Crazy Carl: games 1 and 2 are in chicago, games 3 and 4 and 5 are in seattle, then games 6 and 7 are supposed to be in chicago.
Me: OK
Crazy Carl: the bulls win game 1 and 2 in chicago.
Crazy Carl: then they win game 3 in seattle
Crazy Carl: seattle comes back to win game 4 107-86.
Crazy Carl: then seattle wins game 5 89-78
Crazy Carl: series goes back to chicago for game 6, chicago wins the title on fathers day 87-75 to win the title.
Me: why do i feel like all those details aren't necessary
Crazy Carl: so, chicago has 2 chances to win the title in seattle, but doesn't. they went 72-10 in the regular season.
Me: anyway, go on

Bankers and Wall Street Are Robbing You Blind, Yet Congress Does Nothing: I still can't understand how AIG, beneficiary of $152 billion in federal subsidies and loan guarantees, could get away with giving management $400 million in year-end bonuses for a year in which management did one of the worst jobs in financial history. That money was forcibly removed from your pocket and placed into the pockets of incompetent scoundrels -- yet Congress does nothing! Now it turns out federally subsidized Merrill Lynch, the Bank of America subsidiary given $20 billion of your money two weeks ago, lost $15.3 billion in the fourth quarter of 2008, and yet handed its senior managers $4 billion in bonuses. Four billion, not million, forcibly removed from your pocket -- or borrowed, with the bill handed to your children -- and put into the pockets of scoundrels who did a terrible, horrible, awful job. Merrill Lynch managers must be laughing out loud: They screwed up in a major way, and for screwing up were lavishly rewarded, while blameless federal taxpayers were punished. Why isn't our Democratic-led, supposedly populist Congress incensed about such abuses?

Unfortunately, I do understand -- because Congress is to blame for the abuses. Congress enacted October's $700 billion bailout of banks and Wall Street without including fraud provisions. At the moment of maximum leverage with banks and Wall Street, Congress simply handed over vast sums of your money without getting any accountability concessions in return. If a Pentagon contractor abuses federal money, if the vendor who supplies staplers and paper clips to the National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center abuses federal money, federal prosecutors move in, because contracts issued by federal agencies have fraud clauses. The October deal by which Congress handed over hundreds of billions of dollars to banks and Wall Street doesn't contain fraud clauses!

The AIG and Merrill Lynch top dogs may be despicable, but it's legal for them to stuff your money into their pockets as bonuses. As Michael Kinsley once said, "The real scandal is what's legal." That billions of the $700 billion bailout fund are being looted directly in front of our eyes is legal, owing to the carelessness of Congress.

So why isn't Congress in emergency session to amend the bailout law to allow prosecution for fraud or misappropriation of federal funds? Much of the $700 billion still is being handed out; with every day that passes, more of your money is transferred to Wall Street and banking-industry con artists without necessary legal protections. If bankers and Gordon Gecko knew they could be prosecuted for awarding themselves bonuses taken from public money, this behavior instantly would stop. In October it was a huge blunder for Congress to start handing out hundreds of billions of dollars without accountability clauses, but at least repetition of this blunder can be stopped now -- if Congress would act. That Congress does not act, but continues to give away your money without fraud protection, indicates members of Congress, Republican and Democrat alike, simply do not care how much of your money they waste. Many members of Congress only care about personal power and campaign donations. Giving away your money to people who are already rich helps members of Congress maintain personal power and assure themselves campaign donations. If Barack Obama is to be a successful president, he must realize fast that the Congress is the source of the fiscal "anything goes" problem he had decried.

Supposedly Wall Street and bank bonuses must be paid in order to keep top people from leaving Wall Street and banks. We want the top people to leave! They, after all, are the ones who melted down the financial markets; the avalanche of losses at Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, Merrill, Washington Mutual and other institutions was not caused by the Klingons.Here is a fine article by Michael Lewis on how Wall Street insiders couldn't possibly care less how much of their clients' money they lose, so long as they can manipulate the system to get bonuses. Reckless borrowing and too-small cash reserves set up banks and investment banks for a crash, but created short-term numbers that allowed managers to award themselves giant bonus checks. At least the monies invested and lost with Wall Street brokers were monies freely given. Since the bailout began in October, Wall Street managers and bankers have had access to a far larger pool of cash -- the federal Treasury -- to loot. That's exactly what they are doing, and Congress stands by.

Shortly after Barack Obama was sworn in, he complained of "lack of accountability" in federal handouts to banks and Wall Street. You're in charge now, do something about it! The lack of accountability did not pop out of a rift in the space-time continuum -- the problem is the direct result of carelessness by Congress. Fix the problem! Amend the legislation!
